Nocturnal Enuresis and Desmopressin
Pharmacotherapy with desmopressin is a standard treatment option for nocturnal enuresis. Desmopressin is a synthetic form of the human antidiuretic hormone, arginine vasopressin which regulates water retention in the body. Due to its high antidiuretic activity, desmopressin is used for the treatment of nocturnal enuresis and nocturia (night-time urination). It increases water permeability in renal tubular cells, thus reducing urine volume.
